Residency Application Process

We welcome your interest in Indiana University School of Medicine's Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. This year we will again be participating in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We require a complete ERAS application to include three (3) letters of recommendation. We do not require any additional information or documentation outside of ERAS. We do accept foreign medical graduate applications through ERAS via ECFMG. Indiana University School of Medicine sponsors J1 Visas.

Our application deadline is October 1, 2012.  Interview dates TBA. Our interview day runs from 7:45 AM to approximately 4:00 PM. We host an informal social event for the applicants and their spouses/significant others and the IU Orthopaedic residents and their spouses/significant others at one of the restaurants downtown (location TBA) the night before the interviews. The Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program is an accredited five-year residency program.

PGY-1 rotations include:

  • Multisystem Trauma
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Intensive Care
  • Vascular
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Neurosurgery
  • Musculoskeletal Imaging
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Orthopaedics

PGY-2 through PGY-5 clinical and surgical experiences are obtained on the following:

  • Adult Reconstruction
  • Pediatric Orthopaedics
  • Trauma
  • General Orthopaedics
  • Hand
  • Sports Medicine
  • Foot & Ankle
  • Orthopaedic Oncology
  • Spine
  • Upper Extremity

Rotations are performed at:

  • IU Health University Hospital
  • Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health
  • IU Health Methodist Hospital
  • IU Health West Hospital
  • IU Health North Hospital
  • Wishard Memorial Hospital
  • Richard L. Roudebush V.A. Medical Center
  • Indiana Hand Center
  • Methodist Sports Medicine Center
  • Indiana Spine Group
  • St. Vincent Hospital

Residents are involved in basic science education, journal clubs and other didactic sessions, and are required to complete and present a research project at the Garceau-Wray Lectureship in June of their PGY-4 year.
