Indiana University Lower Extremity Adult Reconstruction Fellowship
Indiana University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and its affiliated hospitals are pleased to support a one-year fellowship in adult reconstructive hip and knee surgery. The fellowship continues to enjoy the participation and support of its founder, Dr. Bill Capello, who is a world-renowned surgeon and past president of the prestigious Hip Society.

The Fellowship is well rounded and encompasses nearly all aspects of lower extremity adult reconstruction including primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. The fellow will have exposure to the following procedures:
• Primary Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques
• Computer Navigation
• Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty
• Surgical Treatment of Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Periprosthetic Infection
• Surgical Treatment of Periprosthetic Fractures
• Complex Revision Hip and Knee Arthroplasty
• Hip Preservation Procedures
The Fellow’s responsibilities include inpatient and outpatient musculoskeletal care of the patient, with an emphasis on evidence-based decision-making. Learning is through didactic lectures, case presentations, critical review of peer-reviewed journals, weekly indications conferences and an extensive surgical and office experience with the various faculty surgeons. There is a significant volume of complex revision hip and knee reconstruction including the treatment of periprosthetic infection. The opportunity for clinical and basic science research is offered and encouraged during the fellowship.
The fellow is also encouraged and allowed to attend the annual American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons meeting held in Dallas, Texas each year, as well as other educational courses focused on hip and knee reconstruction. The fellowship currently receives external funding from an educational grant from OREF (Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation: www.oref.org). Requirements for the fellowship include completion of an accredited residency and obtaining licensure in the state of Indiana.
